8-Year-Old Child Killed in Fort Bend County Pedestrian Collision at Bissonnet and Hodges Bend

Fort Bend County, Texas (June 23, 2019) – An 8-year-old girl died after being involved in a hit-and-run collision on Thursday in Fort Bend County, according to Fort Bend County Sheriff’s officials.

The fatal collision took place at the intersection of Bissonnet and Hodges Bend on Thursday, June 20.

Officials said Angela Smith, 38, failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Bissonnet and Hodges Bend and hit a girl walking in the crosswalk. The girl, who was in the company of her two siblings, was sent flying nearly 20feet into the air by the impact.

Smith reportedly stopped momentarily approximately two blocks from the crash scene but then fled.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased on Saturday.

Smith was tracked down and arrested on Friday afternoon. She was charged with failure to stop and render aid at the scene of a crash.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
