Fungisai Banda and Jacob Frogge killed in Gray County Accident on Interstate 40 near McLean
Gray County, Texas (May 8, 2019) – Two people were killed in an accident involving multiple vehicles on Monday in Gray County, according to a local news source.
The crash took place on Monday, May 6, on Interstate 40 near McLean.
Police said a 2013 Freightliner truck tractor was traveling east on Interstate 40 hauling a semi-trailer. A Toyota Camry was on the eastbound lane with a single headlight, and the driver of the Freightliner tried to avoid it by pulling into the shoulder of the interstate. A 2005 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Fungisai Banda, 33, attempted to pass the Freightliner in the eastbound direction and hit the Camry head-on in the left lane.
The impact of the crash caused the Mountaineer to bounce off the Camry and it struck the driver side of the Freightliner truck.
Banda and a passenger in the Camry, who was identified as Jacob Froggo, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Camry was injured and transported to Amarillo Hospital for treatment. A 2-year-old passenger inside the Mountaineer was transported to Pampa Regional Medical Center for treatment.
No other injuries were reported.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
