Jose Garcia Dies in Montgomery County Crash on Highway 242

Montgomery County, Texas (June 21, 2019) – One person died in a fatal multi-car accident on Thursday night in Montgomery County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The collision took place shortly after 11:00 p.m. June 20, on Highway 242.

According to the DPS, Jose Ortiz Garcia, 22, of Willis was driving a 2010 Ford Mustang westbound on Highway 242 when, for unknown reasons, he swerved into the path of oncoming vehicles and collided with an eastbound 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Janeth Leal, 25, of Conroe.

The Mustang also collided with an oncoming 2002 Honda Civic driven by Giovanny Rojas, 18.

The impact caused the Mustang to split in half.

The Mustang Driver, Garcia, died of his injuries at the site of the collision.

Rojas sustained critical injures and was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Leal and her passenger, 40-year-old Nancy Leal, were both transported to Conroe Regional Hospital and were in stable condition.

The DPS is conducting an investigation into the crash.
