James Michael Evans ID’d as Man Killed in Kilgore Pedestrian Crash on Interstate 20

Kilgore, Texas (May 24, 2019) – The man who was fatally hit by a vehicle early Friday morning near Kilgore has been identified as James Michael Evans, 56, of Kilgore, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The wreck happened at about 1:56 a.m. on westbound Interstate 20, approximately half a mile east of Kilgore.

DPS said Evans’ pickup truck became disabled on Interstate 20 after experiencing a mechanical problem. As he and his passenger were trying to push it out of the way, a tractor-trailer crashed into Evans and the pickup truck.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was not injured.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 42-year-old  William Rex Weimer and his passenger 58-year-old Helmuth Behringer both of Burkesville, Kentucky, were not hurt.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
