Olivia Mendez ID’d as 9-Year-Old Girl Killed in Pleasant Grove Crash on Lake June Road

Pleasant Grove, Texas (May 26, 2019) – The 9-year-old girl who was killed in a fatal crash suspected to have been caused by drag-racing on Friday evening in Pleasant Grove has been identified as Olivia Mendez, according to a local news source.

The wreck happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. May 24, in the 10700 block of Lake June Road.

Investigators said an orange Dodge Challenger, a blue Ford Mustang and a gray Dodge Charger were drag-racing at a high rate of speed eastbound on Lake June Road when the Challenger slammed into a westbound black Chevy Impala that was trying to make a left turn onto Rain Forest Drive.

The impact caused the Impala to spin multiple times and Olivia Mendez, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected.

Mendez was rushed to Children’s Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

An adult passenger and a second juvenile in the Impala were both hospitalized with critical injuries. The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Challenger, who was also hospitalized, was later taken into custody in connection with the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
